I think the spare tyre situation is one of the (many) quirks of an MOT. If it is there it must be legal, but if it isn't it's OK. Although somewhat unwise not to carry a spare, not having one is quite legal

Hi Wozzer, I agree with Picasso. There is nothing wrong with the 2.4 engine, but it has that 4 speed. The auto is OK too; but the combination is a bit thirsty. On a long journey the benefit from a 5 speed is noticeable. Some owners go for LPG conversions. With the price of petrol now it is worth considering the type of miles you will be covering (and your driving style) Either way, the Alphies are a very nice ride

Perhaps I missed your point, but I don't have any external fixtures. If you go way off grid, you may need a satellite set up. Is that what you are alluding to ? An internal satellite system ?

I run my PC from my leisure battery. Most sites have WiFi, most pubs too. BT has a lot of open access sites, if you are a Customer.

Hello David Wheel spacers are not, imho, a worthwhile modification. Among many effects they alter the wheel bearing loadings You may also find your Insurance company will not be too keen either. There are models on the internet, usually operated by wheel and tyre resellers, that allow you to 'play' with the parameters. Offset, and rolling radius are quite important. Most important, perhaps, is to understand any changes to wheel to chassis clearances. Vital for Safety

What head unit do you have ?

I don't know. It may depend on the wheels you have fitted, especially if not OEM You need to check what seating the nuts have, flat or conical. Important. Bolt size and thread should be easy to find. Do you have a JPNZ Owners Handbook for your Gen 2 ?

You should not coast in any automatic !

Do you need parts, or the whole compressor ? If parts, do you know which parts you need ? As most, if not all, Alphards and Lexus have AC, my guess is Toyota will be able to help; but you will need part numbers first ! Maybe the compressors on Alphards are unique, but I cannot conceive that to be true. Compressor from other Toyotas may fit, but checking could be tricky.

Hi Jackie, You can look it up your vehicle, by registration number, on the Transport for London website. Be careful not to confuse Congestion Charge and ULEZ charges. You should be ULEZ compliant. As Teekay states, they are different. As Picasso states, other cities have similar schemes; it is worth checking the charge rates as they can change !

The JPNZ Owners Manual for the Gen 1 does not feature the HDD Head Unit. If you have the HDD head unit, your best bet is eightseater,blogspot.com; but this yellow line issue is not, as far as I am aware, included therein. We have a Forum member who reads Japanese; I need to remember who it is, then supply an OEM page number to him for translation.

Hello Bazzer, Welcome to the Forum. I would argue that, because of where you live, undersealing should be considered essential. I am lucky enough to live by the sea, all that lovely high humidity salty air ! Your quote seems high There is a major thread on this Forum regarding insurance; but the market seems to change quite quickly. Several insurance companies won't insure Alphard / Vellfire models; and if you have it converted the alternatives become even more limited. Your quote seems high I doubt I would be comfortable using used parts ( I am sure many members are) but I am lucky as I have a very (Alphard) friendly local Toyota main dealer who, unusually, is very willing to work on my machine. This is a key point; unless you are willing and able, finding a competent mechanic can be more problematic that finding the parts. Great machines, especially if you buy wisely. Good Luck.

I don't think Gen 1 head units use radio codes. I have never had to renter it in my 2006 MZG Alphie despite a flat battery on occasion.

Hi Tony, Yes you should not have had any trouble. As V is a 1999 plate, putting the older plate on a newer (2005) vehicle is OK. As plates signify a year of manufacture; DVLA will not allow a plate that is younger than the vehicle it is destined for.

Unforunately, LPG vehicles are not allowed to use the Channel Tunnel !
