Converting 7 seat to 8 seat interior
They are different. Obviously, the seats, and, more importantly, the seat rails the seats attach to. 7 seaters have 4 rails in the rear, 8 seaters have 5. So the carpets are different and the insulating underlays too. Why are you concerned about Gross Vehicle Weight ?

Looking to buy a 2.4 Alphard 2012
Hello Martin, Welcome to the Forum. Buying from a Trader will give you plenty of protection under UK Consumer Law. However, returning it the the vendor for corrective action is likely to be problematic, to say the least. Do you have a copy of the Auction Sheet ? If the dealer does not have it or will not give you a copy, walk away. As a consequence of the distance involved, I would be checking with Essex (or the local Council) Trading Standards and Trust-pilot. Does the dealer specialise in Alphard / Vellfires ? Does the dealer specialise in JDM vehicles ? What type of vehicle marques does the dealer (normally) stock ? Check the history on the DVLA website. Does the MOT history suggest adequate and timely maintenance ? Have you personally viewed / driven the vehicle ? If not, you must have the vehicle inspected by a very competent Vehicle Inspector, such as the RAC or AA (there are others). Furthermore, you must understand what the warranty period is, what is covered, and what is not ! Especially the Hybrid batteries. Do NOT assume your local Toyota Main Dealer will service the vehicle for you. They probably won't as most will not work on grey imports, although this situation is improving slowly. So phone them and check. Pay by Credit Card for more purchase protection. I am not trying to dissuade you, but Due Diligence is very important as you will not be able to return the vehicle easily. Good Luck with your purchase.

Confused in what to buy 🤷♂️
I believe Jap Auto Agent claims he is well known to Alphard Club Members and that many recommend him. A thread was started recently to check the validity of that claim. Of course, his customers may not be members of the Alphard Club, in which case why try to add credence by using the Club as an implied reference? To my knowledge, Not one member did come forward, as yet, to recommend him. Despite his website he does not keep stock in the UK. So do your research thoroughly.

Breakdown insurance advice
Lloyds owns the Halifax. Worth asking them if they offer insurance with your account. There may be an account fee, as that is very common nowadays; but you may be paying one already depending on what account you have. Do not post any bank details on the forum.

Breakdown insurance advice
If you bank with Lloyds they offer breakdown insurance on some accounts. Covers the account holder on any vehicle they are in, driver or as a passenger. Shall I change your vehicle year for you ?

Correct Tyres
Sounds about right. Having read all this thread again, I think your issue is the tyres. The Alphie has (should have) a limousine class of ride. Vans are not known for a sophisticated 'luxury' ride. Be cautious about what vehicles you compare the ride with. It is a tall heavy vehicle so expect some 'lean' in cornering. I don't run on cheap tyres (Pirelli), and use the XL versions for my camper. Simone raises a very good point; and it is an inexpensive option to check wheel/tyre balance at any tyre shop. Tyres is one of those areas of expense where, generally, you get what you pay for. Good Luck.

Smartlock / Keyfob locking failure
Hello Roger, Welcome to the Forum. I would start by renewing the battery in the Smart Fob (which won't start the van). A dud battery in the ignition fob will not prevent the vehicle starting, but will affect the locks. If a new battery is ineffective, you may need to get the key reprogrammed. Imho, a auto locksmith is the way to go, but I have seen a process on this Forum, possibly with mixed results Change them one at a time, not together to minimise mishaps.

Aux input on headunit 2006 (56) Alphard 2.4
I think in Toyota Techstream you can turn off beeps, or at least change them. Techstream is free, but you will need the correct cables. Search the Forum for tips on which cables to buy.
