  1. Hello Bill, Welcome to the Forum. Why not ask Steve about the reversing camera?
  2. Hello Steve, Welcome to the Forum.
  3. Yes, you're right. I miss read the drawings. My excuse is my background is electronics , not mechanics. A very poor excuse really !
  4. Reading Paul's (pipsyp) input I am reminded that very high compression engines do not 'tolerate' high alcohol content fuels very well.. E10, as we call it in the UK.
  5. Any rattling noises from the engine; ? Often associated with 'pinking'; pre-detonation caused by poor (low octane) fuel, incorrect timing, incorrect fuel/air mix (too rich, or more likely too lean) or too high a compression ratio with too low an octane can destroy an engine (hole in piston, shards in oil). Did you import the vehicle personally ? I don't know about about the cam cover bolts, but would expect them to be all the same for even torqueing. MAF issues are not uncommon; but yours was fixed. The darkened valve stems could be too rich a fuelling, but, imho, should not cause a major engine failure. Again, so sorry to hear of your situation.
  6. Great news. Don't forget a towing cable or rope !
  7. Hello Michael, I am not a registered Gas Safety Engineer. My insurance company, in the very small print, stipulates I must have a Gas Safety Certificate if I carry gas. I cannot remember the exact term they use. I don't have a bi-fuel system so I am not whether they need a Certificate, I assume they would. For a Camper Van a certificate is not a legal requirement (unless you hire out your vehicle); for a Motor Home or Caravan it is a legal requirement. My opinion is, and it is an opinion, that you would not need a certificate or an LPG sticker for an aerosol. I would suggest the cannister(s) are stowed carefully will travelling. I do need to reread my Insurance as I am unsure whether the Certificate needs to be renewed each year ! Presently, I think not. My insurance, in my opinion, is a very reasonable price. I have already had a new windscreen fitted. If my premiums weren't 'sensible' I would switch to another insurance company. But, of course, what value is it to know that your installation is first class and safe. Have a read of the link, I found it very helpful.
  8. Hello Mandy, There is a squarish panel in the front valance. Behind that will be the towing eye fitting. I cannot remember whether my van has a towing eye included in the tools kit. Nor have I removed the panel so cannot advise if the towing eye is already fitted. I doubt it. They are available in standard sizes, perhaps from Halfords or other auto-factors (JDM vehicles may use a different size, I doubt it). If you think you need s towing eye, you will need a towing cable as you cannot rely on other 'campers' to be carrying one !
  9. Hello Ace, Welcome to the Forum. Search this Forum. There ia a very detailed list (probably in the Maintenance and service section) authored, I believe, by Chric.ac
  10. Motorised type ? Are you referring to the tail gate being motorised, or the soft locking mechanism. From your description, I am assuming the issue is with the soft locking.
  11. I have an interest, but my main reasons for my questions were for the benefit of members. If you were you closer to me, I would visit. What size is it when fully stowed ?
  12. Thanks Richard and Paul. This is quite a find as many members are interested in a Workshop Manual. I'll get one.
  13. I know of a case in the UK where lack of oil changes and oil filter changes caused the demise of a V6 engine. After ONLY two months of ownership, in UK Law, you would have a claim against the seller if they were a business ! Perhaps Canadian Law offers similar redress.
  14. Metals shards in engine oil. How was the engine previously ? Shards, so could be piston rings (lack of oil), big ends (lack of oil, or high mileage (which yours isn't) main bearings (high mileage, oil starvation, unlikely). Rings would be my guess. Big end failure is normally preceded by a 'knocking' sound. Main bearing failure is normally preceded by a 'rumble' sound. So, I guess, you were advised that an engine rebuild was not an economical solution
  15. I am very sorry to hear of your experience. Had you been using engine braking a lot. Clearly you wouldn't be whilst driving uphill. So I am assuming that you suspect that prior engine braking was the cause. Had you been ensuring correct engine oil levels and renewing the engine oil after reasonable periods. I can't speak for BC, but even in the UK finding a suitable mechanic can be an issue.
  16. No it isn't. But my reading of those diagrams is the torque should be about 49Nm front and 56Nm rear. I cannot remember where I found the 80 ft/lbs; where did you find the 103Nm?
  17. Looks very interesting. I have seen this book cover before. Are you completely satisfied with the download ? What was the download size ? No concerns about scams or phishing ?
  18. I agree with Richard, about 21mpg. That 4 speed gearbox doesn't help matters. 9.7km/l is what the handbook says; so you are about right.
  19. It would seem my 80 ft/lbs is way too high ! Twice as much ! Hopefully it is my memory that is incorrect ! I need to check my torque wrench setting !
  20. The Owners Manual from JPNZ does not have any torque settings for any nuts or bolts. Many of us have been waiting for a JPNZ Maintenance Manual to be published; but none has appeared so far. I know the importer, and even they don't know when it will be made available; if at all. These vehicles are quite old, my guess is JPNZ will focus on the Gen 2 model. I seem to recall, and it's worth checking, that the wheel nuts were 80 foot pound when I researched it for locking wheel nuts. That is a lot; I had to buy another torque wrench to achieve the setting ! I recently had some tyres fitted. I should have asked; but I doubt they knew the official figure ! I have no idea what the brake callipers require. What torque did it require to remove them ? I think, in the ether somewhere, there is a Russian manual ! Good luck finding it !
  21. Thanks. Is the c rail removable from the van ? Roger
  22. I now have a Gas Safety Certificate Do you ?
  23. Hello Chris, Welcome to the Forum. How is the awning attached to the van ?
  24. I have a brand new Toyota screen too (long story) and the Autoglass Fitter recommended Bosch SP. They work great.
