  1. If he has many customers on this Forum I am sure many will come forward and recommend him. In the meantime have you read his Terms and Conditions or any Contract wording you will be required to sign. I am intrigued what the legal status is of an agent; the values you mention are not insignificant. Some members do import their 'own' vehicles with great success and significant savings.
  2. Despite the impressive photo of hundreds of vehicles on the website, which I suspect is the auction lot in Japan, the trading address seems to be a private dwelling. I would conduct a very thorough research. Companies House, trading Standards, Trust Pilot, etc. If the vehicle is already in the UK, that is very different.
  3. Hello, Welcome to the Forum.
  4. In the UK you can have you vehicle inspected by Motoring Organisations, there is a fee of course. Alternately, there is the Ministry of Transport roadworthiness test. Although not available to you; I expect there is some similar opportunities in Canada. Your vehicle is unlikely to be undersealed for use in Japan. In my opinion, undersealing is essential.
  5. Well good for Aviva, at least you can drive and maintain your lifestyle. I am so sorry I cannot give you a good recommendation. Have you tried Saga. I was with them many years whilst travelling to and from Spain on a regular basis.
  6. Clearly, your claims record is having an impact on premiums. Did you make the claims with Aviva ? I was with Aviva until I had my van converted. For the premiums you are paying surely it must be worthwhile spending significant time 'shopping around'. Perhaps you already have done that to no avail.
  7. There is an MZ G edition too. The model number is on the VIN plate, B pillar. With the complete model number, or the entire VIN, some members can tell you exactly what you have. Yes
  8. Because it is a grey import many insurance companies are not up to speed. An Alphard and a Vellfire are almost the same vehicle; they only have superficial differences. However, if an Insurance Company don't see it that way you just have to be persistent. My advice ? Don't use on-line quotation tools, read the insurance section in this forum and start phoning the companies directly. Good Luck.
  9. Hello Jez, Welcome to the Forum. What is your model number ? Mine is MH10 xxxxxx. Yours will be something similar. We will need all the character string.
  10. Hi Harley, Have you identified who will maintain your new vehicle ? In the UK it is not always easy to find mechanics willing and able to do the work competently. So, initially, I would focus on Who, rather than What, and Where you (or they) will source the parts. In the UK most official Toyota Dealers will not work on grey imports. Hopefully, that is not the case in Canada.
  11. Hello Luke, Welcome to the Forum, and thanks for the tip.
  12. Hello Andrew, Welcome to the Forum
  13. Most, but not all. Toyota Dealers will not work on grey imports.
  14. After a little research on CVTs I thought I would pass on that they are not best suited to towing. Furthermore, they are unlikely to cope favourably with an identical load when compared to a conventional automatic. I agree with Adam. The heavier the load you expect to tow, the more you should consider an automatic. In the case of a Gen 2 that leaves the only, sensible, choice as the 3.5l V6.
  15. Hello Colin, Welcome to the Forum.
  16. Is the dealer you bought from a member of BITMA ? If so, they may have the info on file. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again !
  17. Hello Michael, What are you trying to achieve with the CarVX report ? Are you looking to import another van? I believe the info provided on some imports can be sketchy. BITMA could be helpful if the car is/was imported by a member of their Trade Organisation; otherwise, probably not. Ihmo, vendors trying to sell a stolen vehicle through the Japanese export system are looking for trouble. Finally, if you use Google to view CarVX, Google can remember your passwords (if you request it to).
  18. Hello Gary, Welcome to the Forum
  19. Hello Steve, Welcome to the Forum.
  20. I have not read anything about longevity comparisons either.
  21. . If have three keys and three smart fobs. None have a folding key
  22. Have you read the threads about the vin plate issues with towing ? Does the 2.4 have a CVT ? I thought it was a conventional 4 speed auto. The 3.5l V6 is 2008 onwards, prior to that a 3.0l V6. There are discussions in this forum regarding "To tow, or not to tow" and also the pros and cons of the 4 cylinder versus the V6. You can search from your home page.
  23. Very interesting as those tuners are inexpensive. What aerial are you using ?
  24. You may not have folding mirrors, hence no legend on the button. Heated mirrors was a Cold Climate option. Quite rare.
  25. Timpsons would not do my door and ignition key. I doubt they do 'smart' keys either. But the smart key fobs on the Gen 1 are only for door locks; they won't start the car. Furthermore, if 'their own chip' does not have the 4D67 chip, it won't operate the demobiliser ! I used a local automotive locksmith.
